We integrate Best Practices and innovative procedures into our facility with the objective of providing compassionate and professional care to our elders and other residents. Our Enhanced Dining options include delicious made-to-order breakfasts with crepes, waffles and omelets. At the noon meal, elders can now enjoy a salad bar in addition to the regularly scheduled fare, and we have recently added a soup and sandwich bar option to the evening meal.
The Fairacres Activity Program is built on a concept of facilitating, when possible, the life-long interests of our elders. There are fishing trips, sightseeing trips and picnics when the weather permits. We also help our elders stay involved in the community by taking trips to places like Black Hawk, local restaurants, and shopping malls (you’re never too old for a little retail therapy!).
Fairacres is proud to participate in the It’s Never 2 Late computer program. IN2L was developed for those with little or no technical experience as well as for those who used computers but thought they were no longer able to do so due to physical or mental limitations. IN2L lets elders surf the World Wide Web, play games, and enjoy e-mail access to friends and family.
In 2004, Fairacres took the next step on our Culture Change Path by opening our General Store. Asking the elders what they miss when they enter a LTC community is a cornerstone of the Culture Change methodology. Their vision included a place to buy items “on a whim,” something they were no longer able to do. The General Store is now a place to take grandchildren to buy nickel candy, a place to purchase a smothered burrito for lunch, to get an ice cream cone or buy a gift for a family member and, most importantly, a place to make independent choices!
