Rowan Community - JULY 2010

Visit from Former Bronco's Player

On July 6th, former Denver Bronco defensive back, Billy Thompson, a former Pro Bowler who played his entire career in Denver from 1969 to 1981 visited Rowan Community for a meet and greet with the residents.  It was an exciting event put together by Bessie’s Hope and their “Dreams Really Do Come True” program.  The residents had a great time asking questions, getting personalized autographs, and taking pictures with Billy and he even stayed to have a BBQ lunch with the residents. EASTER AT ROWAN

Easter at Rowan Community was “eggstra” special.  We had many kids having a blast hunting for eggs, a face painter, and a balloon artist.  Everyone had a great time!

On March 5th, staff from the Denver Botanical Gardens came to spend time with our residents.  They provided individual pots, potting soil, and several varieties of plants for the residents to assemble and enjoy.

ROWAN COMMUNITY AND ELLIS ELEMENTARY

Rowan Community has an on-going relationship with children at Ellis Elementary for 5 years, specifically, Sandy Stokley's 1st grade classes. The children come once per month or every other month to visit with Rowan's residents and the residents also visit them at the school to read, participate in sporting events, and attend their Annual Cultural Days. Ellis Elementary also participated in assisting Rowan with a grant to create a wheelchair bed garden for our residents in wheelchairs and scooters.

ROWAN COMMUNITY LISTED IN THE AMERICAN MEDICAL DIRECTOR ASSOCIATION CALENDAR
Rowan Community is the only nursing home in Colorado that was listed on the 2010 AMDA calendar.  They also have a cute picture of some of our residents and our corgis.  Although we were not featured on one of the 12 months, I think this is a real coup since otherwise CO would not have been represented at all!  The calendars can be ordered on the AMDA website.

HONORING OUR VETERANS
Honoring our Nation’s heroes was the focus of a special event hosted by Rowan Community and the Pinon Business Team on Veteran’s Day, November 11th. Veterans were joined by Chris Nolan, Sergeant 1st Class of the United States Army who spoke to World War II and Viet Nam veterans from Pinon care communities.  Three Pinon-managed homes have contracts with the Department of Veterans Affairs and all Pinon homes provide rehabilitation and long-term care services to Veterans on a daily basis.

Rowan Community continues to partner with Ellis Elementary to raise money to enhance their preschool bi-lingual program. Rowan has partnered with Ellis Elementary over 5 years. Rowan was able to raise $250.00 this month by selling ice cream.
