About Us

Piñon partners with regulatory and fiscal governmental agencies on receiverships, state monitoring, project oversight and training. We have a track record of success and enjoy cooperative relationships with local and state ombudsmen. Programs implemented by Piñon have been recognized by the Colorado and New Mexico Departments of Health for their innovative approach to improving quality of life and quality of care for the residents they serve.

In December 2003, Piñon was hired by the State of Colorado Department of Human Services to assist in turning around their newly-built $24 million state-of-the-art State Veterans Home located at the Fitzsimons campus. This nationally recognized facility had experienced fiscal losses of several million dollars during its first year of operation and was facing decertification. Piñon Management immediately placed a team in the facility and, in collaboration with the Colorado Department of Human Services, successfully regained regulatory compliance with the State, Federal and Veterans Administration. Due to Piñon’s successful leadership, the State continued Piñon’s management contract for an additional year and Piñon continues in an oversight position at present. Piñon also received commendations from the Colorado State Legislature and won the prestigious “Organization of the Year” award from Colorado’s United Veterans Committee.

In 2004, Piñon was hired by the New Mexico Cabinet Secretaries of Health and Long Term and Aging Services to provide consultation on Culture Change models and to assist in establishing a New Mexico Coalition for Culture Change. In this role, we developed a successful life enhancement model which inspired providers to develop environments that encourage flexibility and decision making for elders. As Culture Change leaders, we are dedicated to this movement and feel it remains the only viable future for long-term care providers.
